One-armed paper hanger reporting for duty....

Wow, it's been almost a week. I didn't mean to let everything take over around here but it's been crazy. I'm on F&F overdrive. I'm at almost 5 feet in length with about 15 more inches to go. I'm hoping to get it done this week so that I can block and get it ready to take to Oklahoma next week. Last week at work was INSANE! The kids' brains were still on "Snow day mode" up until just yesterday. We are trying to cram in the last little bit of content standards before Spring Break starts. I have been looking forward to spring break all year, however all the things I dreamed of doing are probably going to be put on hold. We are leaving for Oklahoam next Tuesday to find a rental (while we build starting this summer) and for me to continue my job search. I've got a few interviews and will be going to a Teacher Job Fair on the 6th. Hopefully everything will be falling in to place, with the house, job.....and with the afghan. I'm a little nervous that it's going to be a little overwhelming, but no matter, my grandmother is the kind that loves anything handmade, especially with love.

I Love Hast!ngs!

Tonight I had a few errands to run. Went to the grocery store, then to the library to get another book on CD (it's my new way to make the commute go faster without using up all my cell minutes in the first week LOL), and then went to work out. On my way home I stopped by my local Hastings store. When I was doing all of my packing and such I ran across TONS of books that I had bought while in grad school and eventually found no use for. So they buy them back and usually for a nice in store credit price. Well 12 books and $80 in store credit later I thought that I should probably save most of this for books for the girls or gifts for people later on down the road, but I just HAD to get a book or two for myself. So I got the new Debbie Stoller book, The Happy Hooker: Stitch and Bitch Crochet and The Yarn Harlot's At Knit's End:Meditations for Women Who Knit Too Much. I'd been meaning to buy Stephanie's book for quite some time and since her newest book isn't out in my local store I decided to buy this one. As far as the crocheting book, I learned how to crochet as a little girl from my grandmother, but never really honed the skill. I want to learn now because several of the patterns that I want to learn involve some finish crocheting, plus there were some cute cute patterns in the book to boot. Today was back to the grind at work. Lots of kids with their brains still on a snow day. I did manage to get about another 6 inches done on the F&F afghan while supervising detention after school Tomorrow I have suspension after school (SAS) for 2 hours so hopefully I'll get more done then too. I'm looking forward to my KnitWits club this Saturday as I haven't been for almost a month due to basketball and other committments.

Of skirts and Nan...

Of course when you have 2 children (especially when they are of the same sex) you can't do one for one child and not the other, so Nan got her skirt along with Em's.
Speaking of Nan, she's a weird little bird, but I love her dearly. Her newest thing is to play "birdie" in which she sits on her "perch" (my bed's headboard) and watches TV while she sings and "twistles" (whistles". Today she sat up there for close to an hour and a half while she watched her new movie Ch!cken L!ttle.

A foot an a half of snow....

After 18 inches and two days out of school we are going back to normal life tomorrow...BLECH! LOL. I did get the entire storage room packed, but not much knitting done. I've been telling B and the girls that I HAVE to get the afghan done. We are going to Oklahoma to see my grandparents 2 weeks from today and it has to be done by then and it's only at about 40-50% now. It will get done in time I suppose. I need to get to work on my socks for my pal as well. May will be here before we know it as April will be here in 10 days. YIKES!

Snow day, schmo day.....

So the plan was to get to knit all day in my rocking chair watching sappy movies and just chilling out. No such luck! THe Yarn Harlot had it right in her book about the TAKE Team. I have them here as well (TAKE = Team Against Knitting Enjoyment). All I wanted today was to sit and knit, but NOOOOO. NOw I'm in the middle of a mass cleaning and packing of our storage room in the basement. THen when I'm not working on that I'm being jumped on, hollered at and down right pinned down by Nan because she doesn't want me to knit. Where is the husbeast during all of this? Sitting upstairs in his recliner just watching his hunting shows and saying, "Do you need some help? I'll be there in a minute." yet, I havne't seen him in the basement yet. This was his glorious idea so I have decided that if he isn't down here in 5 minutes I'm going on strike refusing to unlock my bedroom door and going to knit until I see that they have called off school for tomorrow. LOL. On another note, here is what used to be an old pair of Em's jeans and now has been made into a cute skirt. I have a t-shirt I'm going to add sleeves to, but not sure when I'll get the time.

Beep....beep...beep....

The National Weather Service has issued a severe Winter Weather Warning. Your area will be receiving 6-8" of snow overnight with an additional 12-14" by pm on Tuesday. Please be advised to gather up your patterns, UFO's and other essentials in order to keep your sanity since you will be undoubtedly locked up in the house with your children and husband for the next 72 hours.

Well, that's what they should have said anyway. Living in Nebraska this fall adn winter hasn't been all that bad, but now of course on the 1st day of spring (tomorrow) one hellacious snow storm is headed our way. Apparently it's the state's last big send off to us, so I'll be home I'm sure w/a snow day tomorrow along with B and the girls. Could be interesting. I've been running around making sure I have everything I need, but I'm thinking of running out to the movie store, or to teh bookstore to get a new knitting magazine to keep me glued to my knitting and from going insane.

Don't get me wrong. It's not that I detest spending time with my family or anything it's just that we are a busy family that like to be outside and doing our own things. We like to go places, play outside and generally all like our own spaces. Whenever we have ever had a snowstorm... the forced togetherness that we have to endure is a little much for all 4 of us and we start to get on each others nerves tremendously.

Updates on WIPs....

Well the Sockapalooza socks are "kind of in progress". However, after a few minutes working on it. I ended up working on other projects. The feather and fan afghan is on try 2. I frogged the rest and am working on getting it finished by April 9th..... yeah right! LOL.

Also I have a few things going on on the side, I tried to post some pics, but they just weren't working.

Happy Belated St. Patty's Day....

New digs....

I finally showed B the Knitting Blog. He liked it and was very glad that the time I spent on the internet was spent looking at knitting blogs and patterns and not chatting with strange men in chat rooms! One thing that was mentioned was what am I going to do when we move to Oklahoma and no longer live in the "Heights" (name of the neighborhood we live in now). I wasn't sure but then started thinking about it and decided that it was time to move with a new name and new site. The old blog will be open for awhile so that everyone can update their bookmarks and links on their blogs to which I'm linked. WELCOME!
